Pat:
Sounds delightful, thank you. I for one will have finished the book. I'm already on Chapter 6 (er, minute189). 8^) cheers, Mark
P,
This
sounds like fun and a very generous offer from the Islay Inn. I would
prefer to meet before the dinner and perhaps we could have
a hand of bridge after the repast if anyone is interested.
I
am hoping to introduce a new member – Kurt, a friend from Toronto who
has recently moved to Nanaimo. He is also a bridge player – slightly
more accomplished at the game than me – you will be pleased to know. A
certified non-reader, so nobody need be too concerned.
We will assume a potluck dinner? W
Hi again, Laddsters!
As to potluck, that is a very kind and generous offer but we will be catering this event so there is no need to bring sweetmeats, frankincense or malt. We have even thought about a compromise for the Vegan/Vegetarian crowd, inasmuch, as we plan to bbq Maggie for the main course. From today until the day before the gathering she will be fed on Ancient Grains and Wild Salmon and stuffed with Kitsilano horse chestnuts, the latter in order to comply with the strictures of the 100 Mile Diet.
As to the timing, if possible, we, (The NRBC), might wish to convene around 3:00pm or so in order to complete the non-discussion of the non-read/non-listened to book. Early arrival of spouses/significant others is welcomed as Local 1425, Chapter .33 of The International Sisterhood is having a planning/strategy session immediately next door, at The Annexe, should transport be an issue.
Bridge sound like a grand idea. In fact we might think of renaming the group The Bridge Club and then we could discuss unread books while bidding. This way the pressure of the reading deadline is removed and attendance might actually rise!
RSVP as we need to tailor Maggie's feeding portions and let me know your thoughts about start time. Cheers, Il Conduttore!
PS: I thought that you might like to know that the NRBC made it to the VWF Volunteer Party yesterday evening!
Hi Titanium Man et al:
In order to allow Dave to be part of discussion I suggest we convene at 3:00pm. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Jane and Kjell!
Must apologize for taking so terribly long to thank you both for the simply lovely evening and more than delectable meal last Friday! I simply don't know where the time went and I had such good intentions to send our thanks days ago! At any rate it was a very relaxed and cosy evening and we enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Saw Julia last night at the VWF Volunteer Appreciation Party. Lots of fun. Coriandre's parents arrived this past Wednesday so it is great to have them back next door. Clarisse is already making turkey soup from the Thanksgiving turkey bones I kept in the freezer.
Still a month away but we'd like to invite you to our pre-Yuletide gathering on Sunday, December 2nd, anytime after 5:00pm. Should be going on for some time so even if you have to work, Jane, please think about coming after your shift.
Cora Lee is making pizza for dinner and I have just been summoned to open a bottle of wine and perform scullion duties. Thanks again. Cheers, Patrizzio
Hi Donna!
Simply wonderful to bump into you at the VWF! Thank you both again for coming to Mom's Memorial. It was very thoughtful and certainly much appreciated.
Sorry that it has taken me so long to send along these snaps but seem to have been even busier after the VWF finished. Coriandre's parents arrived this past Wednesday so it is great to have them back next door. Clarisse is already making turkey soup from the Thanksgiving turkey bones I kept in the freezer!
Coramandel and I met, 41 years ago, On Halloween, at Champs Motor Inn on Osborne. Since Clara and Dusty were arriving that afternoon, we decided to celebrate a day earlier. We went to Edibles, on Granville Island, one of our favourite spots there. Friends from Perth, WA, Bev and Kevin Wittwer, stayed with us for two weeks this past September and gave us a gift certificate to the restaurant as a thank you for their stay. We had a wonderful meal and all within such easy walking distance!
Cora Lee is putting on a brunch for Friends of VPL tomorrow at Creekside CC in the Olympic Village. I have been dragooned into being bar-keep, handing out Champagne, (well, actually Spanish sparkling!), and OJ. Did it last year and it was fun. Still, an aweful lot of work for Corinne. I think she will be more than pleased when her term as President comes to an end next Spring. She really has accomplished quite a lot in the two years since she assumed office but I think she has finally decided that she can't change the world and is looking forward to spending more of her retirement on herself. Selfish one that I am, I came to that conclusion even before I took early retirement!!!
Still a month away but we'd like to invite you and Glen to our pre-Yuletide gathering on Sunday, December 2nd, anytime after 5:00pm. Do hope you can make it as we are scheduled to leave Vancouver, (as of this writing!), on December 12th. We want to take our time traveling south to LA to spend Christmas with Ayn and Los Horridos. Chloë, Clarisse and Dusty will fly down. We are actually house-sitting for Ayn's cousin, Rick, who has a gorgeous home in Simi Valley. He and his family will spend holidays in Bora Bora to celebrate his 60th. Have already been in touch with David and Nancy, friends in Berkeley, and mentioned that we will probably arrive on their doorstep sometime around the 18th/19th/20th, depending on how long we spend wine-tasting in Sonoma/Napa!
Anyway, let us know if you think you can make the open-house. If not, perhaps we could try to get together sometime this month, as an alternative way to do some more catching up. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!
Pics: For dessert we had Chai Crème brûlée and it was more than delicious!
Hi Kathleen and Stefano!
So sorry that it has taken me so long to reply to your last two messages, Stefano, and send along these snaps. First email you were just back from NZ and seemingly enjoyed the "gigantic" Pinots! Was very pleased with how Mom's Memorial went and that Kathleen was able to be there. She has probably mentioned that Grogg and Da Lip did a wonderful version of Before I Met You.
In second message you mention the Jack Irish series and from what you describe it sounds terrific. I'm keen to see all of them and do hope they are available on DVD.
We had a very good visit with Amos . Trust all goes well at Old Oak and in The City with The Worker Bee. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!
