Me and some of my Hallmark crew setting off the holiday season...#FederalBar

    • Patrick James Dunn Great snap! We dream about setting off the holiday season in Canada! Have to wait until December 2nd for our pre-Yuletide Bash at The Islay Inn, #GIBar!

    Pat,
Are you and Corinne available on Saturday Dec. 8th for dinner?
    Ray

    Pat,
The recent mauling by a grizzlie in Kimberley was done to Peter Moody and his wife, unfortunately. I think you knew him from your days at the Ed. Library.
    Ray

    Hi Raymond!

Corinne had heard something about the attack on the radio but I wasn't aware of it until you sent the message. I read an article from the Calgary Herald a few moments ago. What a horrific event! Quite amazing the Peter was able to walk 1-2K to nearest residence for help given his injuries and his age! I suppose he has maintained his fitness. He always impressed me as being pretty tough in that physical fitness sense. Bit like Robo Man, if I do say so!

I always liked Peter from my days in Education. He seemed much more down-to-earth than Garry, although Gaz was always most likeable even if he wanted everyone else to do his work for him! Do hope both Peter and his wife will recover completely. If you are in contact, please pass along my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

On the lovely invitation for dinner, I'm terribly sorry but we can't come. For her part Cora Lee will be in Seattle with The Sisterhood: Flamin' and Robyn. Goils only weekend! I would be delighted to come alone but I have already accepted another invitation. Do apologize as we'd love to have come, otherwise.

Just back from VPL where I helped Kerry unload the cartons of books on sale for David Boyd's public lecture on the right to a healthy environment. (UBC Press publishes his work.) David Suzuki was supposed to be there but was taken ill, suddenly, so Peter Robinson, new CEO of the DSF stepped in. Simply riveting talk. David Boyd is a wonderful speaker and presented a fairly complex subject in a way that was both accessible and engaging:

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms provides every Canadian with freedom of expression, equal protection from discrimination and the right to life, liberty and security. But it has nothing to say about our right to a healthy environment.

Everyone needs access to clean air, safe water, fertile soil, and nutritious food, to survive and to thrive. The natural environment, made up of complex and diverse ecosystems, provide these most basic needs.

The David Suzuki Foundation and Ecojustice Canada are working together to ensure every Canadian receives legal protection of their right to a healthy environment.

It was part of the launch of his new book: The Right to a Healthy Environment. In spite of the fact that this lecture was the culminating event in a national book tour Boyd didn't seem at all exhausted. He spoke passionately, always lucidly and peppered his talk with humour and fascinating examples of what embedding legal protection into the constitution can and has done in many, many jurisdictions around the world. Sadly, Canada is not one of those national jurisdictions. Place was packed. I invited Kjell along as Coriandre had another meeting! Sweden was cited specifically as an example of one of the leading countries with respect to environmental law and enforcement but ironically, not via its constitution. Kjell was quite aware of both facts. He was simply delighted to have been able to attend. Most worthwhile indeed!

Went out to Iona again today, (Initially I was simply going to ride to 41st and Arbutus for a haircut but thought of dismounting dissuaded me!), along Spanish Banks/MD to CSTB, for a bit of extra distance. Needed some other riders to draft behind on way out as wind was fierce, although it was much warmer, overall. Bit like yesterday on return. I went up Cambie to 57th and then across to heather and back down to 70th to connect with MD back to UBC. A few dipsy-doodles around campus to have 88K by time I reached the bottom of the FSH. Then to Kits Point for a few loops to up kilometre count. Home with 102.2K over 5:02:48, AVG 20.2KPH, MAX52.3KPH. I decided that I should take advantage of the dry weather while it held. Doesn't look promising for next little while as I'm sure I need not tell you.

Anyway, hope we will see you on Sunday. Will chat before then. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Looks like Luca is taking after his dad and will be tall

Isaac Brock Alumni Neweletter and Data Base

    Hello Everyone,

We are pleased to send you the first issue of the Isaac Brock Alumni newsletter.  It gives an update of where we are at in terms of planning for the 100th Anniversary celebrations.  We will issue other newsletters from time to time to keep you abreast of plans as they evolve.

Also attached is a copy of the Alumni data base (with personal information removed).  It is colour coded with green indicating information we have and yellow information we are requesting (especially e-mail addresses for those that have them).  Other areas without a colour are for optional information.  We would very much appreciate your help in reviewing the data base, providing missing information and adding names and contact information of other alumni and former staff who are not currently on the list.  We would like to be able to contact as many former Isaac Brockers as possible.  Thanks very much for your assistance.

Watch for a separate e-mail coming out later today giving information on our next fund raiser event – the Sisters of the Holy Rock concert on March 16, 2013!!

We hope to see you there and/or at the reunion in May.
    Elaine Heinicke

    Hi Joan!

Must apologize for not being in touch sooner! No excuses but plenty of reasons! Thanks for information on Isaac Brock Reunion. I think I might just be able to make it. I agree, it would be great good fun!

Will definitely be in touch once we are back, mid-February. Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year to you, Joan!! Cheers, Cora Lee and Patrizzio!
    Hi again, Ski!

I had asked Coriandre about dates for St. Martin and sent along ones she gave to me, February 1st-10th. Now, she has revised our schedule and would like to visit from January 28th- February 6th, +/-, depending on your schedule. Sorry for the confusion, (It was clear as mud/But it covered the ground/The confusion made me head go round! Thanks, Harry!) Please let us know as soon as you are able to "confirm reservations" so that we can proceed with booking flights, etc. Thanks!

Once again, terrific to see you. Let me know about booking into the Pent House at MacCormack Manor, St Maarten Estates by the Sea.Safe journey home! Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

    Hi:
After reading your email about your biking,  I am feeling like a sloth. I left early for the airport to try to change my flight, but alas, no luck.  I am wasting away in Vancouver International.  I need to go for a walk

Let me know what dates you decide - I am thinking 7 - 10 days is a good length since Gordon emailed me and he is thinking of coming in mid Feb.  and Ron's sister is coming for her March break and someone from Ron's hockey team said he wanted to take his wife - I am not sure about that visit since I don't know them very well.  There may be some nieces thrown in there as well.

It sounds like a busy winter in St Martins!

How will you get your exercise when you are away?  The beach near us is great for swimming, so make sure you bring your goggles and you can swim back and forth in the cove. I was thinking of trying to find you a bike.  There are bike rentals.

Thanks for your hospitality, Al really enjoyed his visit and you never know he might come by on Sunday.

Love, Rhoda also know as "Ski"

I am a bit confused/that maybe you are confused.  So lets put down some facts.

We have company that will be leaving about 1/19 if you are coming then.
We are hoping you arrive about then for about a 2 week stay if you think you can stand us that long.  If not, come later or leave earlier.

We have company arriving 2/5.  With that company we are doing a Yacht Club cruise 2/8 returning 2/15.  Company will fly home 2/18.

If you come between 1/19 and leave b/4 Feb 5 you can leave your car here.  If you return b/4 we return (between 2/8 & 2/15) we can set up the apartment so you can regroup and take off b/4 we return.  We only have 2 bedrooms and a pull out couch.  So we would be a bit tight with all 6 of us should that happen.  If you are staying at St. Martin while we are gone you are more than welcome to stay with us after Feb 18.

Ok, now about the bus vs limo.

The limo will pick both of you up at our apartment and drop you off at the airport for a total price of about $175.00 + 20% Gratuitly.  they meet you at the airport with a sign with your name on it.  Makes you feel real important.  The drive is approx 2 hrs one way.

The limo name is "A class transportation" 239-389-0550

Jack just googled and the site comes up.  if that doesn't work info@aclasstransportation.com  should work.

Your bus is cheaper and we can certainly drop/pickup you at the McDonalds but if you return while we aren't here I don't know taxie costs.
Jack wonders why you aren't parking you car @ Miami.  Can it be more than the bus fare both ways?
If this doesn't make sense maybe we need to talk by phone.
Our address:  100 Stevens Landing #105, Marco Island, FL 34145
    Jack's cell phone:  239-394-5177     Gail's cell phone:  360=317-4666.
I am sure the cell phones won't work while we are doing our cruise but other than that we try to carry them with us all the time.
If you can't visit us b/4 St Martin, can you visit afterwards?
I better send this or it will get longer than long.  We just keep thinking of something else. Gail
