IIDD, Moondance: Friday, October 12th

What is the use of a fine house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on. -Henry David Thoreau, naturalist and author (1817-1862)

Pat,

It is time to really put the TREK to some good use:

Check this out:

Service is included. G

George/Pat,
Hope you had a good ride with Mark yesterday. At least it remained dry. I have picked up a heavy cold so won't be able on Saturday - seem to be cracking up in my old age. I'll get back to you re your mom's gathering on Sunday, Pat. Ray

Ray,

Sorry to hear you have a bug. On the up side, your timing is impeccable. You could have been sick in that lovely weather we have gotten so used to.

Mark and I had a good ride yesterday but it was cool, windy and a little too laden with traffic. We met at Science W. and rode the park, across the LG Bridge, across N Van and back over the Iron WM Bridge, back to Central Valley and parted there. I am not a fan of the North van portions without trails or of the 2nd narrows -- too much noise. Clocked 100.33 kms in under 3 hours.

We plan to attend the service on Sunday and will walk up from the house. The church is only two blocks east of us on our street. If you plan to attend, perhaps you and Sylvia want to park here and walk up with us. You could view the garden at that time. I could even serve you a beer or some other cold remedy (toddy) if needed.

Hope you feel better soon. G

Hi Everyone,
Thanks to all of you for your emails, well-wishes and support.
The cardiothoracic surgeon was pleased with the outcome.  It took a long time.  Started at 6:50 this morning, ended at about 2:00 pm.  Lots of nasty scar tissue to get through, but all in all, a good outcome.  Mike has a new mitral valve and his heart is beating again strongly on its own.
Details tomorrow.  I am very tired and need a shower and a glass of wine.  Will not be answering the phone tonight.
Mike is in the Cardiac Recovery Unit (like an ICU) and will have a breathing tube till tomorrow.  He was trying to wake up and pull the tube out when I saw him at 4 pm.  Good luck to his nurses tonight.  He's a determined man.
It was a great support to have Katie and Elizabeth there w. me throughout the day.  They both took the day off.  Great kids.
Will keep everyone posted. Marilyn

Dearest Marilyn!

Simply wonderful news! Thank you for letting us know how the "Determined Man" fared! Please pass along our love and concern as he undertakes a full recovery. Terrific that you had the support of Katie and Elizabeth during the protracted surgery. Obviously, a more than difficult time for your family but you were able to weather the storm together, as a family, gaining strength from one another. Please feel free to crack anything in the "cellar", (If there is any hootch left!), in celebration of the new mitral valve and Brave Heart! Too, too bad that there isn't any Retsina there. Then again, just more for you! But a brief note for now, (Will be in touch later with more news from The Islay Inn after you both have had a chance to recover and settle into a return to a quieter emotional and psychological life.), to send along our very best wishes and congratulations on a rather heroic undertaking. Fondestos and Cheers, Chloƫ, Corinne and Patrizzio!

For He's a Jolly Good Fellow! Hip Hip Hooray!!!

Hi Lads!

Thought you would like to know about Mike's latest marathon operation! Cheers, Il Conduttore!

P,

The current forecast calls for light rain overnight, followed by rain, followed by ‘rain at times heavy’ – later tomorrow.

Let me know if you want to ride and if so when. W
